Flamingo Rampant: Adventure!

A quick update, with more to come, but it looks at the moment like we'll have books in early January, and - barring the unforseen, tfu tfu tfu - you'll all have yours in your warm and well-manicured hands before the official pub date. Please cross all your various digits and appendages that this actually comes to pass, that the forces of logistics and the sprites of keeping the wheels turning collaborate for a good outcome.

In light of this, we are going to send surveys in about ten days! Keep your eyes peeled and please reply ASAP for fastest bookular service. 

Last, thanks for your patience. It has been such a weird and wild time, and so many things have been so absolutely borked this year, but not you. I deeply and dearly appreciate every single one of you.

Hi, hello! Holy flamingoes, have we been busy! We've got lots of changes and updates, so buckle up!

1. How are the books doing?

Picture books and 2 of 3 middle grade books are FINISHED and AT THE PRINTER.

2. When will I get my books?

As I'm sure many of you have already heard, there's a global worldwide shortage of paper and also a severe global bottleneck in shipping. I will spare you the extremely dull details, but because of this your books will unfortunately be delayed until December - as of this writing. They may be delayed more, which I know is terrible and what's worse is there's just no way for us to know. The schedule depends on a paper shipment arriving to the printer on time, but they don't know if it will arrive or not until it does or doesn't, then the truck that's scheduled to move the books has to be available when they're actually done which we don't know until...et cetera and et cetera. Stressful for everyone. We're so sorry for the delay, but unfortunately it's completely beyond our control - all of publishing is struggling with this. That's why we havent asked for shipping addresses yet, and we won't until we know the books are on press. 

3. Wait, uh... 2 of 3 Middle Grade books? Where's Puberty, Pick Your Path?

This is mostly good news overall. Puberty is delayed (rimshot) - but for a nice reason! We got a chunky grant from the Canadian government to build a completely free interactive online experience to accompany Puberty, Pick Your Path. It will include some incredibly rad stuff that young people will be able to access wherever they are, anonymously, for free, with no download required! This will massively increase the reach and usefulness of the book! But: in order to make the best use of the grant money, we've slowed the book production so we can carefully make sure we're representing everything in a way that works in concert with the interactive resource and do our best for everyone. Because of this, we're delaying Puberty until the late spring. If you ordered it as part of a bundle it will just arrive separately (and a bit later).

4. Okay, well... is there a treat at least? Anything I can enjoy now?

There is! Our delightful friend, Emmy-nominated trans actor Scott Turner Schofield, made you this read-along audiobook of It's A Wild World. You can listen to the audio by itself or put it on and encourage your young readers to turn the page whenever the chime sounds, so they can see the illustrations and enjoy the dulcet tones of a great actor doing all his best actor stuff just for us. You can download it here!

Hello, all! It's very exciting here at Flamingo Headquarters - writers, writing away. Illutsrators, ink-spattered and joyful, making character sketches and planning spreads. Want to see some art? Of course you do.

Dearest, darlingest backers of our 2021 Adventure season,

THANK YOU. Thanks to all 1, 106 of you wonderful, thoughtful, perfect and utterly delightful humans we have reached our goal, and we're making books! Writers are writing! Illustrators are illustrating! We are booking time on printing presses, updating our spreadsheets, and making all the preparations to create a new season of amazing, beautiful books for you. From all of us at Flamingo Rampant, we're so excited to be getting to work.
